Mystery Plants

Again, I know what these are, and you will be so surprised when I tell you!

Colors

These were a lot of fun to take. I think they fit into this category.

Here is a picture of my setup. I don't use any type of triggering device just time the drops and activate the shutter. It usually takes 50 or 60 attempts to get a few good ones. The pencil is used to focus the camera on the spot the drops are falling and then switch to manual focus so it stays there.

Here is another one from tonight. I mixed it up a little bit.

What denomination bill is this from?

I suspect this will be easy, but not from a commonly circulated currency.

Can you guess?

Late lights at night

I finally decided to post these from my trip to St. George. Ya, a couple of weeks late but ...Oh well!

What is this?

Not sure what to post this week regarding images, but will start it off with something I was experimenting with yesterday. Can anyone identify what this is?

Bubbles

I was going to let this assignment go because I have had an extremely busy week, but Tyler came running downstairs after his shower and said..."Look how big of a bubble I can make out of my shampoo." Well that was all it took to have me grab my camera and take some pictures of my little baby who is growing up all to fast.

A Couple More Hand Shots...

A Treat So Sweet it Takes Both Hands....

Holding On Tight.....

Freeze Branding......

Cold Hands.....Warm Hearts....

Not all of my pic's are of My baby girl, but she's just at that age where most of them are still pretty magical.  The 3rd & 4th pic's I took in November while we were freeze branding cows on the ranch.  I have a lot of branding pic's since we hot iron in the spring and freeze brand in the winter each year and it is a pretty important family tradition that I always fear will be gone someday and only pic's left to tell the stories.  My dad is branding in the 3rd and my Grandpa is taking a break in the 4th with Tatie--one of my favortie pic's.

Filters?

Yep, full of questions, but this is what a blog is useful for. Have figured out what a polarizer filter does, and a graduated density filter (for darkening a portion of the photo, typically the sky). However, what does a Neutral Density (ND) do? Yes, I understand it reduces the total exposure in regard to light, but why? Cannot a person also increase the shutter speed or ISO, or "stop down" the aperture? Possibly a use with fluid motion, where one wishes a long exposure, such as a waterfall or stream, and still retain selective DOF?

Two HaNDs

Two hands...ready-set-hike.

Two hands holding tight...

Two hands on the gun, one eye on the target...

Two hands baiting the hook...

Grandpa's Hands

So when the subject of someone using both hands was listed, I instantly thought of my Grandpa. He has been working with hands his entire life. Today I was fortunate enough to spend some time in his shop taking pics of him working. It amazes me how at 90, his motor just keeps cruising. It was a pleasure to spend time with him, and capture him at work. I hope these pics will do justice to him.

Learned a new word!

In addition to learning great new shooting techniques as a result of this blog, have added a word to my photographic vocabulary. Probably a lot of you know this already, but it is "Bokeh." It is, according to Wikipedia, "the asthetic quality of the blur in out-of-focus areas of an image." I had given little thought to this portion of a photograph, but enthusiasts and professionals evidently do. From what I can garner, it is primarily a property of the lens, and a concern for lens makers. However, the photographer can control how much bokeh via depth-of-field. Possibly it can also be manipulated via a program like Photoshop? How many of you take this property into account when shooting?

Sleepy little hands

This is Ellie's favorite sleeping position and I love it! It's so cute to me, like she poses it, but even cuter because she doesn't! I've noticed, as I wonder if you have, that my posts or pictures, are all kinda personal, deal with things important to me! Just something I noticed!

Late post

I'm a very amature photographer. Shutter speeds, saturation, things like that are out of my realm. So for "lights at night" I took the above picture, my little girlie, Irish, reading a book she loves. Obviously, I'm late for the "lights at night" but if that is a problem, I think this pic could also fit in the "someone using both hands" week!

Tiny Fingers, Precious Music...

A lucky catch that I had my camera out when I went to get her out of there and happened to capture this--whether it is the clearest or cleanest pic is left to be desired, but how can you not love those tiny, precious fingers, even pounding on the piano, when you know quickly they grow.

March 13th assignment

I'm a bit stressed about the March 13th assignment. Can it be interpreted to also include "guess what this photograph is of" ?? That might be kinda fun. A guessing game! Short of some strange life form, don't know if I could do a photo of something unknown to myself.
