Wouldn't wish to be one, but lichens are very long-lived and TOUGH. Two species of lichen were exposed to 15 days of the vacuum, temperature extremes, and cosmic radiation of space. They returned none the worse for wear, as living and healthy as when they departed. Again I must say, the diversity of organisms on this planet continue to amaze me...
