Remember when Coke came in glass bottles?

  1. Tell us more about the 1929 Franklin. A very unique vehicle! Yep, sure do remember these Coca-Cola machines. Correct me if wrong, but I seem to remember one in the courthouse entrance not in entirely ancient history, say 1970+ Well, maybe that IS a few years past!

  2. The Franklin was residing in a shed here in Panaca along with a Model T and a 1970 Boss Mustang. The owner needed some help getting the Model T and the Franklin out of the shed. I was at Cindy Sooz and overheard her telling this to a friend, so I volunteered myself and my two sons.

We had to pull the cars away from the shed walls before we could pull them out through the doorway. I have a pictures somewhere of the dragmarks from the tires. Anyway, the Model T was sold that day and the Franklin loaded on a trailer to be hauled to the National Automobile Museum in Reno for a full rotisserie restoration and possible display at the museum. As far as I know, the Mustang is still there and thus the reason why I'm not naming names or locations.

The experience was extraordinary and something I never believed but had always hoped would happen to me. I had actually lived out one of my childhood fantasies: The Barn Find!

  3. That is an awesome story, to go along with an awesome photo - it really does not show its age, and the tires seem in good condition! I really like your photo of Old 93 - the sunset-tinged clouds, and the steam from the engine really set the photo off! And the Coca-Cola cooler is awesome; there is actually one upstairs in the Panaca Fire Hall, not in use - just for show I think.
