Okay, here are some more converging lines shots, taken just for this assignment!

As always, comments and criticism welcome!

  1. I like them all, but my favorites are the 1st and 3rd.

First. I am thrilled by sky shots when there is something directing my eye upwards. The trees help but the sun and clouds make the pic almost ethereal. The drama is one of reaching heavenward. Did you use two stacked polarizing filters?

Second. The flowers and the tree at opposing angles takes me out of my vertical/horizontal comfort world. I might need to get out more.

Third. It is the variety of shapes intertwined I find fascinating. Everything is so sharply focused.

Fourth. I find myself asking "What are those white blurs in the background?" It's almost as if the fallen log is trying to shed itself of the limelight.

  2. First: no polarizing filters; might have been interesting to try, though. But I was trying to use the trees to point at the sun.

    Hoooorizonnnnntal.... Scaaaaary! :P

In this one, I was trying to use the tree and shadow to direct the eye to the arch. There is a lot going on.

Upon further reflection, the fourth is the weakest. The background blurring is intentional, but it's supposed to keep you from being distracted by the background. Obviously that didn't work... Oh, well. Not every shot is a winner!

  3. The first is definitely my favorite - the deep blue of the sky does look like a polarizing lens was used!
Interesting shot of the ponderosa pine trunks. I like the aster (flower) that is in the intersection of the two!
In the third shot, the fallen tree seems to point the opposite direction from the arch ("leading lines" - a concept which I expounded on in my "Picture Perfect" slide program at the Parks, way-back-when). If the fallen end of the trunk had been pointing AT the arch, your attempt would have been rewarded...
My eyes were not distracted by the white limbs in foreground of the 4th shot - that one was very effective, to me, in directing your eye to the scenery beyond! I liked that shot!!

  4. That's just regular ol' New Mexico sky... :D

Aster? Isn't that a thistle? I chose a point of view that would put the whateveritis at the intersection.

Good point about the tree trunk. I learned something today! Cool.

Interesting new take on #4. Thanks!

    This is great feedback, folks.
