Think Small

Went out back of the house. Nothing spectacular, but located some small critters. It gave me some good practice with manual focusing and exposure/DOF/shutter speed settings.

Swallowtail & Zebra long-wing butterflies

Bugz

Mormon Cricket

Walking Stick

Live subjects

Both were alive, albeit possibly barely. Brought the moth indoors to photograph, then released. The cricket was probably nearly drowned in the Panaca rain yesterday (notice the water droplets on him/her) but it held still for multiple shots. Have a lot to learn in regard to macro photography! Going to be on the lookout for more insects during the week...

Begin the search!

Insects, insects, where are they when one needs them? Always on the front of cars or in the house when one doesn't wish. How does one temporarily anesthetize creatures for a photograph? The unwritten rule is no killing of lifeforms for photo ops! :-) Will they quick freeze and thaw? Ha Ha!

I Love B&W!!!

Toes in the Sand.....

These kids had a ball at an Elder's quorum party the other day--doesn't matter how hot or windy--playing in the dirt makes for magic.

I saw someone had taken a pic of their kids shoes one time and it evoked such strong emotion that I wanted to try it, so I got my little ones cowboy boots and took this on my kitchen floor, which I loved with the wood grain--it's kind of a fun keepsake, to me anyway.

B&W & Repetition ;)

Shawn is back...I hope

I would say it has been close to forever since I have been on the blog. SORRY! I thought I would try to reconnect with my camera and my photo friends. Well I took some bridal pictures a couple of weeks ago (with one of my photo friends) and here are three that fit in this weeks assignment. Critique #1: I loved the lighting and the silhouette of her cute little hips (oh I remember those days). The white blob over her right shoulder is horrible and I tried to edit that out but failed miserably so it unfortunately had to stay. My other self critique is her left hand. Well it is actually her right hand but it is on the left side of the picture. Any ideas how I could have placed that better to still accentuate her figure but not have it looked so posed. I should have gotten rid of the house in the background too. (I have lots of words for someone who has been missing for all this time :)
I really liked this one too. I purposely made it darker just for some creative variety. I did a lot of removal of telephone poles, houses, cars, cracks in the pavement. Man I hadn't noticed how bad Panaca's roads were until I had to remove them from my picture. Any critiques, besides making the yellow line look better. That was just going to take more time than I had to give.

Alright...now I know this pictures is not going to be the favorite of all people, but once again I loved it because it is just a little different. To know me is to know that I am just a little kookie. The filter I used still had the bottom of her dress out of focus and if I could have figured how to manipulate that I would have made that change.
I don't get my feelings hurt about critiques (good or bad) so please add your comments. That is how we will all become better photographers, and by all means I need to step up my game.

black and white

Webs

Going to my peaceful place

Welcome to my Web

B&W appropriate?

To me it is a difficult decision if a photo looks good in black & white. However, certainly a lot easier nowadays whereas one doesn't have to load a different film (do you remember Plus X and Tri X?) into the camera. In fact, even more simple, as one can shoot everything in color, then convert on the computer. LOVE digital photography!
Took these a couple of days ago, and it gave me a good excuse to go exploring.
