You don't need to clean your specs, Randal, that is a Nuthatch (bird)!! Awesome shot of the little guy! Wonderful shots of the yuccas in bloom (or getting ready to bloom), and the purple penstemons are gorgeous, too! I agree with you on the twisted tree - great texture!
Yes, that tree basically posed for the camera. Nuthatch, eh? Okay. I can usually tell bald eagles from chickadees, but that's about the extent of my ornothological knowledge. And you just doubled my knowledge of wildflower names!
Leave it to the retired park ranger/naturalist to know these things! Yeah, I'm a regular fount of knowledge, except when I forget... which seems to happen more and more these days... ;)
