The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.

  1. I totally agree with that comment! In 1987, I went to a park interpreters workshop in St. Louis and took an all-day seminar with Joseph Cornell (a famous, among interpreters, educator). He had us do a one-on-one exercise, with pairs of people going around the Arboretum where we had the seminar. One person would put their hands over the other person's eyes and lead them to different views - position the person's head as it if was a camera, then uncover their eyes for a glimpse. The person would be told whether to use their eyes as closeup lens or telephoto lens. It really was a great exercise - maybe if we ever get together in person, we could try this!
