Playing with Light

I saw someone else do this and wanted to try it myself. Can't wait until I can try in a big open area.

f/7.1 iso 100 10 second exposure

f/8.0 iso 100 8 second exposure

f/9.0 iso 100 10 second exposure

  1. Great idea Adam! Tech question, how did you arrive at the exposure parameters? As I did with the laser writing, trial and error?

  2. The post I found online recommended between 6 and 13 seconds, so I just went with that. I need to find a bigger area to play with this idea.

  3. Awesome! Beyond all the techie questions on exposure, etc. - how did you set up the shot? Is this on a tripod, with you waving a Roman candle or something?

  4. The camera is on a tripod, and I attached some steel wool to the end of a wire and lit it. The faster you swing it the faster it burns.

  5. Oh, yeah, the old "steel wool" trick! In my "winter survival techniques" program, I suggested keeping a small supply of steel wool in one's emergency kit, because it does a better job of getting a fire going than paper or tree bark (especially if those are wet). That is a super-idea, and great shots!
